Texas Ramp Project - San Antonio
The Texas Ramp Project builds wheelchair ramps for families that lack the financial ability to build a ramp for themselves. We are building every month in San Antonio and the Alamo area and need unskilled volunteers to work with our skilled team leaders. The time commitment is approximately 4-5 hours. With your help we can change someone's life in half a day. You will see the completed ramp and watch our client roll down the ramp for the first time. Each ramp requires 3-6 volunteers + a skilled team leader.
Description:
The Texas Ramp Project was organized exclusively for charitable purposes. The mission of the Texas Ramp Project is to help create and sustain local organizations throughout Texas to build wheelchair ramps for people with income limitations. These ramps help people with physical disabilities get safely into and out of their homes. We have a backlog of referrals and need your help to build more ramps.
History:
The Texas Ramp Project is an off shoot of the Dallas Ramp Project doing business as the Kiwanis Club of Richardson, Texas. The Kiwanis Club of Richardson, Texas has been building wheelchair ramps in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for more than 20 years. The number of ramps being provided in the Dallas metro area are approximately 250 per year. This successful experience has led many of the Dallas volunteers to extend the charitable service throughout the state of Texas. Although the Texas Ramp Project is not directly affiliated with the Kiwanis organization they still are active in continued volunteerism with the Texas Ramp Project. The San Antonio Ramp Project is approximately 2 years old.
