San Antonio AIDS Foundation
The San Antonio AIDS Foundation has a dual mission--providing compassionate medical care and social services to people with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), and helping prevent the spread of HIV through education and free testing.
Description:
The San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF) is licensed by the Texas Department of Health Services as a Special Care Facility and Residential AIDS Hospice. In addition to residential care, SAAF provides case management services, free hot meals, rental assistance, emergency financial assistance and adjunctive therapy. Free and anonymous HIV testing is available. Education is provided to schools, colleges and universities, worksites and correctional facilities. Court mandated HIV Awareness classes for probationers convicted of sexual or drug related crimes are also held.
History:
SAAF was founded in 1986 by a group of volunteers committed to providing hospice care for persons with AIDS. It has since grown to be a comprehensive service center funded by local, state, and federal agencies as well as volunteer donations of time and money.
