Academy Of Tejano Artists & Musicians
A non profit musician-led organization whose mission is to recognize all artists and musicians in the Tejano genre without the premise of record sales or airplay.
Description:
The Tejano Academy was formed in 2002 to recognize those musicians who have made significant contributions in this genre that is very much a part of the weave that makes San Antonio special and unique. The Tejano Academy also produces the annual FanFare at Maverick Plaza which is free and a family friendly event. The Tejano Academy also produces the Annual Tejano Academy Awards which is free to its members (artists/musicians) and a small fee is charged to the general public but children are admitted free of charge. This is the only musician-led organization that also fosters Tejano music by making it available to minors.
History:
The Tejano Academy was formed in 2002 by a group of musicians who felt that they needed a vehicle to recognize those musicians who participate with other artists but are never recognized because they are not the "front-men". These unsung heroes are the best of the best in their respective musical instrument, therefore, the Tejano Academy was modeled after the Screen Actors Guild, where they are voted on by their peers.
