Project MEND (Medical Equipment Network For Those With Disabilities)

To provide low income persons with disabilities with refurbished, donated medical equipment and specialized fitted devices that will enhance their independence, self-sufficiency and mobility.

Description:
Project MEND provides the following services:

DURABLE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT -
Through this service, we receive donated, previously owned medical equipment from the greater community and businesses, then refurbish, repair, and sanitize these items and distribute them to low-income persons with disabilities at no cost to them.

FITTED MOBILITY -
Through this service we help clients pay for specialized fitted devices, such as, prosthetic and orthotic devices, and diabetic shoes and supplies. We have established agreements with various hospitals and labs that enable us to pay for a maximum of $500 per adult client (maximum of $1000 per child 0-18 years of age) for the purchase of these items that are often at a reduced price for the client. If the client has insurance, the balance is covered through the insurance, and if not, the client pays the balance.

INFORMATION & REFERRAL -
Project MEND works together with various social service agencies to find supportive community and business resources, as well as provide in-home assessments and assistance for those in situations when traveling is not an option. Clients are often referred to other social service agencies for additional services they may require.

History:
Mobility and independence are basic human rights, and we at Project MEND encourage that for all individuals, regardless of their financial limitations. Established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1993, Project MEND, also known as the Medical Equipment Network for those with Disabilities, has been providing for the medical equipment needs and specialized fitted devices needs of low-income persons with disabilities in San Antonio and surrounding counties for over a decade.
