Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

Description:
Leadership development is the core of the Girl Scout Movement and is the thread that is woven through everything a girl experiences in Girl Scouting. Based on the Girl Scout Promise and Law leadership and code of ethics, the girls understand their values and use the knowledge and skills to explore the word. Programs are delivered to the girls by trained adult volunteers in a troop setting. We employ programs with other collaboratives and organizations dedicated to youth development.

Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas is a dynamic and contemporary organization which prepares girls to seek and meet the challenges of our ever changing society. Through our program, girls ages 5-17, learn to have fun, gain self-esteem, and contribute to their communities. A variety of opportunities exist for those interested in volunteering their time and energy in support of our Girl Scout programs. The volunteer structure is innovative and emphasizes adult education and training.

History:
Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas has been serving girls since 1924 throughout an eight county jurisdiction: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Frio, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, and Wilson counties. Recently,we have grown to now serve a total of 21 counties. The new counties include Edwards, Dimmitt, Kimble, Kinney, Maverick, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde and Zavala from the El Camino Council jurisdiction. The Comal, Gonzales and Guadalupe Counties are from the Lone Star Council jurisdiction and Karnes County is from the Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas jurisdiction. We are the largest girl organization in the world and have 95 years of service to our mission and membership.

Girl Scouts Of Southwest Texas 5 Overall Experience    Experience rating
exciting and challenging...I would do it again.
As a member of Americorp and volunteering with local community centers I found that I have a passion and vision for the inner-city youth and rural youth development. I want to explore more cultural initiatives that include elders.
