LULAC National Educational Service Center - San Antonio (LNESC-SA)
To provide the highest quality of educational opportunities that will empower members of the Hispanic/Latino community to maximize their personal and educational potential in order to become lifelong learners and leaders.
Description:
The LULAC National Educational Service Center-San Antonio was founded in June of 2001. Since then the center has provided educational services, at no charge to members of the San Antonio community. The center is housed in Alazan Courts Housing Authority office approximately a block south of the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center. The center currently provides basic computer, typing, English as a Second Language and GED preparation classes. Through a collaboration with the Valero Volunteer Coordinator, the center provides truancy counseling and the opportunity to fulfill community service hours. LNESC also sponsors a Young Readers program at Pershing Elementary. The goal of the Young Readers program is to spark an interest in reading and writing among 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students. The Center also houses 19 computers most of which have high speed internet access. History:
LNESC,Inc. was founded by LULAC in 1973. It is an independent separately incorporated non-profit organization. LNESC has established a network of 17 centers which provide counseling and financial aid assistance to disadvantaged youth. On an annual basis, LNESC's field centers provide educational counseling to over 15,000 students.
