In our own lives, each of us was touched by someone-other than our parents-who broadened our horizons and brought a little magic into our lives. By becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister, you can do the same for a child and you will both be forever changed by the experience.

Description:
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nonprofit agency that matches children ages 5 - 17 with fun and caring adult volunteers. The volunteer Big Brother, Big Sister or Big Couple become(s) friends with their Little Brother or Little Sister and gives the child someone to talk to, share time with and learn from. Volunteers can choose to be matched in any of the agency's three programs depending on their individual interests and schedule.

History:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas has been matching children with caring, support volunteer mentors since 1978. Over 2,000 youth were served in one-to-one matches in 2006, and the agency is working to serve 2800 in 2007. Each of these matches are supervised by Match Support Specialists to make the experience safe, smooth and fun for both the child and volunteer.
