Communities In Schools - San Antonio
To connect schools with community resources in order to help young people successfully learn, stay in school, and prepare for life.
Description:
CIS-SA seeks out valuable existing community resources-corporations, organizations, specialists, institutes of higher learning, individuals, and government leaders-to create and implement programs which enhance the school experience for kids of all ages. We collaborate with over 100 government and community agencies in order to meet the needs of our students in the most effective and cost efficient way. We provide Counseling & Supportive Guidance, Health & Human Service Referrals, Educational Enhancement, Parent & Family Involvement, Enrichment Activities, and Career Awareness & Pre-Employment Services. We believe that all children need and deserve five basic life tools: a personal, one-on-one relationship with a caring adult, a safe place to learn and grow, a marketable skill to use upon graduation, a chance to give back to peers and community, and a healthy start and a healthy future.
History:
CIS-SA began serving Bexar County in 1985 in 2 schools with 4 staff. We are now serving more than 40 schools and employ a staff of over 100. We measure our program by looking at our students' attendance, academics and behavior.
