PET Project Texas
The Personal Energy Transportation (PET) Project's mission is to provide mobility for those in greatest need and with the least resources.
Description:
The PET Texas organization builds Personal Energy Transportation (P.E.T.) for individuals who have lost the use of their legs due to landmines, disease, accident or injury. Landmines alone kill or maim one person every twenty seconds. The need is extensive and growing. Basically, the P.E.T. is a hand-cranked wheelchair that uses pneumatic tires for use on dirt and grass areas.
The P.E.T. has been extensively field tested and is designed to be:
· STURDY, in order to provide services for the rider for many years · SIMPLE, to be easily maintained in outpost conditions · LOW-COST, so the donor dollar can serve as many as possible P.E.T.s are built by volunteers using mostly donated components. There are P.E.T. production centers in Florida, Missouri, Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, and Zambia.
History:
The P.E.T. Project began in 1995 as a ministry for those in greatest need of mobility. The P.E.T. Project ministry continues growing to serve the overwhelming needs in some of the most desperate places in the world. The majority of the gifts of mobility have been the three-wheeled, hand-cranked wheelchairs now affectionately called "P.E.T.s".
