SAMMinistries

SAMMinistries is an interfaith ministry whose mission is to help the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless attain self-sufficiency by offering, with dignity and compassion, shelter, housing and services. We provide volunteers opportunities to be renewed and fulfilled as they serve.

Description:
SAMMinistries meets the needs of the homeless in several ways. We have two facilities and 25 houses around San Antonio where those in need can find help.

SAMMinistries provides emergency services at its emergency overnight shelter on Commerce. This turn of the century building has been described by one of our guests as a "lifeboat" - a place where people in crisis can turn for support, acceptance, encouragement and hope. For many, SAMMinistries on Commerce represents the first step in a long journey towards self-sufficiency. Our doors are open to those in need.

SAMMinistries provides a Transitional Living and Learning Center on Blanco Rd., which has the capacity to serve 40 homeless families who have demonstrated a commitment to gaining self‑sufficiency. Private and shared living accommodations meet basic needs for families in transition for up to two years.

SAMMinistries also has 25 single family resident homes in which families can live for up to two years. The combination of comprehensive case management, supportive services, and decent neighborhoods provides families with the necessary tools to become self-sufficient, break the homeless/poverty cycle permanently, and move on to independent living.

History:
SAMMinistries opened its doors for the first time in 1983. Today, SAMMinistries' highly recognized Continuum of Care model is supported by more than 240 churches and synagogues and over 800 volunteers monthly.
