GROUNDHOG JOB SHADOW DAY

OVERVIEW

What is Groundhog Job Shadow Day?
Job Shadow Day is a one day event during which students are provided an opportunity to participate in job shadowing experiences directly in the workplace. The goal is to provide students an up-close look at what a “real job” is like and how the skills they learn in school are put to use in the workplace.

When is Groundhog Job Shadow Day?
The Job Shadow program begins in September and continues throughout the school year.

Where will Groundhog Job Shadow Day take place?
At participating corporations throughout the city that are willing to coordinate and support employees to serve as “Groundhogs” for Job Shadow.
How will Groundhog Job Shadow work?
Pre-event: Junior Achievement will recruit students through schools and other youth serving organizations utilizing our education relationships in the community. Junior Achievement recruits sponsor corporations interested in participating in Job Shadow utilizing JA’s relationships and partnerships in the business community. Assign participating schools to sponsoring corporations/sites and coordinate transportation for student participants. Provide class participants and sponsoring company with implementation/orientation guide for Job Shadow Site Coordinator and JA support in preparation for Groundhog Job Shadow Day.
Day of Event: Students arrive at pre-assigned site(s) and after attending a welcoming and brief company overview, they then spend the remaining 1 to 3 hours with their assigned volunteer participating in Job Shadowing experiences that have been personalized to reflect the sponsoring company’s goals.

Post Event: Complete the Job Shadow Post event Evaluation Forms and return all required documentation to the JA Coordinator. Participate in planned debriefing/feedback/summary sessions.
