Volunteers are needed to serve as an Ombudsman or Advocate for local nursing or assisted living facility residents. The goal of the ombudsman program is to ensure the best possible quality of life in Texas long-term care facilities. While in the facility, the volunteer will talk with residents, family members, and guests to identify any complaints or problem areas. Then, the volunteer will work with those individuals and the staff to resolve these issues. Ombudsman also provide information about rights and procedures and help identify additional resources in or out of the facility. Long-Term Care Facility locations are in Jourdanton, Lytle, Pleasanton and Poteet.
Your personal touch is needed to develop a rapport with the residents and staff to promptly identify problems and resolve them. All you need is a caring heart and willingness to make a difference.

The Texas Department on Aging provides all necessary training in the local community. Volunteer must be at least 18 years of age, not currently employed by a nursing or assisted living facility and have the ability to make fair and objective decisions.
