Sorting and Packing of Reclaimed/Donated Edible or Non-edible items

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on September 2, 2009

Volunteers that participate in this activity are asked to quality control and inspect reclaimed/donated edible food and non-edible items. They enjoy working together with others and gain an appreciation of how good their life is in comparison to those in our community who struggle with being hungry and disadvantaged. The things often taken for granted become very appreciated. Most volunteers express the warm feeling they feel in their hearts because of donating their valuable time and energy to help their "Neighbors in Need".

The minimum age limit for any unsupervised volunteer at the San Antonio Food Bank is 15 years of age. Due to safety concerns, children 8-14 may volunteer only with adult supervision. For youth groups (12-15 years old), one adult is required for every six youths. Please be sure accompanying adults understand they will be supervising the group. For youth groups (8-11 years old), one adult for every four youths is required. Closed-toed shoes are mandatory for safety reasons.
