Volunteers are needed to serve as an Ombudsman or Advocate for local nursing and assisted living facility. The goal of the Ombudsman is to ensure the best possible quality of life in Texas long-term care facilities. While in the facility, the volunteer will talk with residents, family members and guests to identify any complaints or problem areas. Then, the volunteer will work with those individuals and staff to resolve these issues. An Ombudsman also provides information about rights and procedures and help identify additional resources in or out of the facility. Long-Term Care Facilities are located in Schertz and Seguin. Your personal touch is needed to develop a rapport with the residents and staff to promptly identify problems and resolve them. All you need is a caring heart and willingness to make a difference. The Texas Department on Aging provides all necessary training in the local community. Must be 18 years of age and not currently employed by a nursing or assisted living facility. Have the ability to make fair and objective decisions. Must also be able to donate an average of two (2) hours per week visiting the facility for a commitment of one (1) year or more.
