Advocates provide confidential counseling and advocacy for elders age 60 and older and their caregivers. Advocates assist by providing information and assistance about available programs, applications for programs and help resolve claims with Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and/or pensions. Advocates also assist in the areas of benefits and entitlements and assist seniors to understand and access public/private benefits. join the group of advocates who will assist by giving services and information on the telephone, in person or at locations in the community. Locations are Bigfoot, Dilly, Moore and Pearsall. To learn more about our agency visit www.alamoaging.org.
Our volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. The volunteer should be able to work independently and know when to ask for assistance. Our volunteer is able to be sensitive to elders social and emotional needs and respect and protect their privacy and confidentiality. training is 25 hours which involves attending group and individual classes and 20 hours shadowing our qualified Benefits Counselors. Training is accomplished at the volunteer's own pace. The volunteer is asked to remain with the agency at least on (1) year and give at least two (2) hours per week after training is completed.
