United Way 211 Call Center Seeks Volunteers

The United Way 211 Call Center responds to hundreds of callers every day seeking help with personal and family problems such as child care, emergency food, family counseling, and health care.  Currently 211 is receiving a high volume of calls from the elderly and persons with disabilities looking for fans to help cope with the current dangerous heat wave in San Antonio.

United Way provides free training for volunteers to enable them to respond effectively to callers.  Training consists of 4 hours of classroom followed by one-to- one coaching with staff to build confidence and expertise.  Volunteers learn telephone assessment skills, active listening skills, and problem solving skills.  Volunteers also gain an in-depth knowledge of community resources for key community needs.

The United Way Call Center operates 24 hour a day, 7 days a week and can accommodate volunteers with a wide variety of work schedules.

If you would like to be a volunteer and truly make a difference in someone's life, contact Mary Damsgaard at 352-7050 or mdamsgaard@unitedwaysatx.org
