The mission of the YMCA is to put Christian principles into action through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
Description:
The YMCA of the Inland Northwest is comprised of the Downtown Spokane YMCA, the Spokane Valley YMCA, Camp Reed and sponsors the Spokane County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). The YMCA offers many low-cost services and programs to the community including childcare, youth sports, swimming lessons, YMCA Learning Academy and teen programs to name a few. The YMCA also offers a variety of volunteer opportunities and membership options for program participation or full facility use. Our programs reflect the diversity of Spokane. We offer financial assistance for memberships and programs and many other community services.
History:
In 1884 a group of leading citizens founded the Spokane YMCA as a way to develop Christian leadership among youth and young adults. In 1906 the YMCA opened their new five-story Downtown YMCA at First and Lincoln, offering sports and a year-round swimming pool. In 1964 the YMCA moved to it's current location in Riverfront Park.
The YMCA started Camp Reed, the resident camp on Fan Lake, in 1915.
The YMCA was very proud to open up their newest beautiful facility in Spokane Valley in May, 2000
