MDA Summer Camp 2010 - Volunteers Needed!

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on July 2, 2009

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is currently seeking volunteers for their Summer Camp Program.

Volunteering at MDA Summer Camp means helping a child with Muscular Dystrophy escape the struggles of everyday living to experience the joys of youth. MDA Summer Camp needs volunteers in the following capacities: Camp Counselors, Medical Staff, Water Safety Instructors, and Activity Coordinators.

Camp Counselors (16 years of age or older) work one-on-one with campers providing the care, close supervision and attention that children with neuromuscular disease need. Counselors push wheelchairs, lift and transfer youngsters, help with crafts and games, and even "bunk down" near their campers. But above all, they become a youngster's friend for a week - and sometimes for a lifetime!

NOTE: Not all campers use wheelchairs and some require more/less personal care than others. Counselors are trained to work with youngsters having neuromuscular disease and proper camper/counselor match-up is discussed at your interview.

MDA Summer Camp is held in Rathdrum, Idaho in mid-July.

Volunteers must complete an application, pass a background check, have a physical from their physician, and attend MDA camp volunteer orientation. Male and female volunteers needed!
