English at Work - TX - Austin

English at Work is an Austin, Texas-based nonprofit whose mission is to provide essential language instruction at the workplace in order to increase employees’ opportunities for an improved quality of life.

Description:
The organization’s vision is to build a community where language proficiency gives all people access to opportunity. To achieve this vision, English at Work engages employers and employees in the curriculum development process, creating lessons that are specific to the workplace and relevant to students' lives. We also bring in guest speakers and partner agencies to further inspire and educate our students. Technology such as laptops, digital cameras and video recorders are an important part of the classroom as a way to enriched the classroom experience.

History:
English at Work's board was assembled in 2005. In 2008 we served over 200 students at a dozen businesses in Austin including Guero's Taco Bar, Whole Foods Market, Hole Slice Pizza, Seton Williamson and Dell Children's Medical Center. In 2009 we anticipate serving over 300 students. We are a young but expanding organization and are looking for volunteers interested in being a part of our growth.
