Prevent Blindness Texas - Austin Branch
Prevent Blindness Texas (PBT) is a non-profit, voluntary health and human service agency established in 1956. Our mission is to prevent blindness, preserve sight and enhance and extend the quality of vision life for all Texans through free programs.
Description:
Prevent Blindness Texas, with the assistance of volunteers, conducts free vision screenings at various locations in the Austin area. In addition, PBT assists low-income adults and children with free eye exams and eyeglasses donated by local optometrists, ophthalmologists and opticians. Adults are served through our Partners in Prevention Program and children are served through Kid Matters Sight for Students Program. PBT is a front-line contact for the public that fields hundreds of calls monthly from individuals looking for assistance with vision care. PBT is the go-to source for educational materials on eye health and safety as well. We strive to serve the greatest number of Texas residents by continually improving the delivery of services through our network of branch offices and volunteers.
History:
Established in 1956, Prevent Blindness Texas now has seven branches throughout the state of Texas. For over 50 years, PBT has been assisting low-income individuals with free eye exams and glasses in addition to providing free vision screenings by certified vision screeners.
