Marc Thomas Sickle Cell Foundation
The Marc Thomas Sickle Cell Foundation advocates for persons affected with Sickle Cell Disease. We believe awareness is a crucial step in promoting education for this underrepresented and chronic disease. And we hope to acquire volunteers to help further our agenda with funding through events and outreach.
Description:
The Marc Thomas Sickle Cell Foundation is a small organization increasingly expanding. We provide outreach by health fairs, hospital visits, city and council meetings, attending National Sickle Cell Events, and gaining the attention of local media. We provide services to our clients including: emergency financial assistance, hospital visits to hospitalized teenagers and children, support group meetings, hydration services, children camps, and events that we create.
History:
The Marc Thomas Sickle Cell Foundation was established in 1997, it was founded by Marc and Linda Thomas and started with only one client; to date it serves over 300. Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects over 2 million Americans. Most people are unaware of the disease until a child is born with the disorder; making education and awareness so pertinent. We educate hospitals, doctors, politicians, news media and several other avenues to educate them further about Sickle Cell Disease. Currently, we have outreached to over 20,000.
