The Missy Project

The Missy Project is a 501(C)3 non profit organization dedicated to Raising Awareness of Brain Aneurysm Disease in children through education, outreach and early detection research.

Description:
The Missy Project was established by the Magel Family and friends on Nov. 24th, 1999 - what would have been their daughter Marisa (Missy) Magel's 13th birthday. Missy passed away suddenly while at summer camp from a disease they never know she had.. Brain Aneurysm Disease. In researching the disease, the Magel's were told that Missy's death was rare. However, they discovered that it is quite prevalent among children and sadly often misdiagnosed as a migraine headache. A headache isn't just a headache - specifically if you have a history of Brain Aneurysm Disease in your family. But most physicians don't even ask about it. More needs to be done to bring awareness of the symptoms of Brain Aneurysm Disease and who may be affected.

History:
For the past 10 years, The Missy Project has provided support and education for those affected by Brain Aneurysm Disease. We created and fund an Early Detection Community Screening Program at the Brain and Spine Center, Neurosciences at Brackenridge Hospital. This research program provides free MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography) screening services to families of those with brain aneurysm disease. This will save thousands of lives.... Being one of the only research projects in the country for early detection of Brain Aneurysm Disease, The Community Screening Program was recently granted $75,000 from Boston Scientific. This landmark study will provide necessary data about the genetic predisposition of brain aneurysm disease in families.
