Meals On Wheels And More
The mission of Meals on Wheels and More is to nourish and enrich the lives of the homebound and other people in need through services that promote dignity and independent living.
Description:
Meals on Wheels and More serves homebound elderly and disabled people who have difficulty preparing nutritious meals, and have no one to help them with meal preparation. We also offer other support services designed to help people live independently. The services include a minor home safety repair program, transportation to and from medical appointments, a telephone reassurance program, grocery shopping assistance, and more. Meals on Wheels and More depends on the help of volunteers to deliver these services.
History:
Meals on Wheels and More got started in 1972. Volunteers prepared and delivered meals to 30 homebound elderly people from two kitchens. Today more than 3000 caring volunteers deliver hot nutritious lunchtime meals each weekday to more than 2500 homebound people who can no longer prepare balanced meals for themselves. Meals are planned by a registered dietitian, prepared in our Central Kitchen and delivered from 15 pickup up cites in Travis County and Round Rock. Over the years we have added other programs which help our clients remain independent in their homes.
