LifeWorks Literacy Programs
LifeWorks Literacy Programs provide instruction for basic literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults, age 17 and older, who read below the sixth-grade level.
Description:
"Not being able to read is like being in prison, because if you can't read, you're not free." -Literacy Program Student Think of all the things you couldn't do if you didn't possess the gift of literacy : read the warning labels on medicine bottles, interpret traffic signs, fill out a job application, follow a recipe, read to your sibling or child. LifeWorks transitions youth and families from crisis to safety and success. We provide the most comprehensive network of services for youth and families in Austin. LifeWorks offers a safety net of support to more than 10,000 youth and families every year.
History:
We have served the Greater Austin area since 1984. In January of 2008, we merged with LifeWorks, itself a merger of four agencies: Child and Family Services, Pathways Community Counseling, Teenage Parent Council, and Youth Options.
