Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas will be a center of excellence for Central Texas consisting of a strong alliance of expert personnel, facilities and other specialty resources dedicated to the care of children and adolescents within a forty-six (46) county referral region. We believe no child should be refused necessary care and attention for lack of ability to pay.

Dell Children’s acknowledges its responsibility as a leader in the delivery of pediatric care. We believe that central to this responsibility is the need to view care as both family centered and family oriented.

Dell Children’s believes the consolidation of pediatric care in one regional referral center is essential to the development of high quality, cost-effective programs. Such consolidation is vital for the development and maintenance of professional skills of our physicians, nurses and allied medical personnel.

History:
In the early 1980s, the pediatric medical community recognized the critical need for a single hospital dedicated to the care of children throughout the Central Texas region. Only a children's hospital distinguished by both medical expertise and a caring environment capable of meeting each child’s social, emotional, developmental and spiritual needs could well serve the community's children.
n 1995, the City of Austin began looking to operate a partner for its public facilities. The City and SETON Healthcare Network shared concerns that unique community services, including trauma care, care for children and indigent care, remain available. It made sense for the region’s two not-for-profit, mission-driven organizations to collaborate. Under SETON’s stewardship, Children’s Hospital has continued to support the needs of Central Texas children and to attract specialists who once were available only in larger metropolitan areas.
In 2005, in collaboration with the pediatric medical community, the Seton Family of Hospitals, the leading healthcare provider with more than 20 facilities in Central Texas, agreed that a new, larger children’s hospital was crucial to meet the demand of one of the fastest growing regions in the country. Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas opened on June 30, 2007.
