The Austin Academy is a community based non-profit adult educational service agency. The Austin Academy will strive to empower at-risk youth and economically disadvantaged adults by teaching them long-term skills necessary to:

  • Acquire and retain employment,
  • Meet the hiring criteria of local employers,
  • Achieve economic and personal self-sufficiency,
  • Contribute to the community in a positive manner.

The Austin Academy is helping build a stronger community through education, empowerment and service.

Description:
We offer GED preparation classes, Computer Literacy Classes, and Workplace Competency classes for people 18 years of age and older. Our program provides the assistance needed to successfully complete the GED exams. The Computer Literacy program is great for those who are interested in brushing up on their computer skills or establishing new computer skills. The Workplace Competency Program is for full-time participants and includes a variety of skills and strategies to obtain and retain employment.

The Austin Academy also has a full-time Job Developer on staff who will assist each participant with finding permanent employment at a livable wage.

A case manager is assigned to each participant with the goal of identifying and eliminating barriers.

Our participants include individuals from the following categories:

  • Dislocated workers
  • Individuals re-entering the job market
  • Public housing residents
  • The unemployed and underemployed
  • Disabled Veterans
  • Welfare recipients


  • History:
    The Austin Academy began offering adult education and literacy classes in 1995. Programs have expanded and evolved over the years to adjust to community need and demand for courses and classes that enable youth and adults to gain the skills necessary to obtain above minimum wage jobs.
