Travis Heights Elementary HOTS Program
The vision of our HOTS reading program is to use community resources to assist students who are having difficulty in reading, writing, thinking, listening, and speaking.
Description:
Need a Reading Buddy?! If you can read this, you can be reading with a child at Travis Heights Elementary School! On our PreK-5th grade campus, volunteers are given the opportunity to read one-on-one with the same child weekly for 30 minutes. Needless to say, we'd love for you to read with additional students if you'd like to volunteer for additional 30 minute blocks. Consistent volunteers serve as support to students and teachers, increasing reading skills as they create a bond with a child.
History:
HOTS began in the Fall of 2003 to address the need for additional reading support outside of the classroom. We have been fortunate to experience consistent growth in the program since 2003 and are setting some lofty goals for the 2007-2008 school year: We want every struggling reader to realize that reading is a joy, not just a subject in school!
