To inspire and empower people affected by cancer. We help people with cancer focus on living; we believe unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. From the moment of diagnosis the LAF provides the practical information and tools people with cancer need to live life on their own terms.

Description:
The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) serves its mission through advocacy, public health and research.
Programmatic activities include grants, resources for cancer survivors, national partnerships and advocacy initiatives.

Volunteers at the LAF assist in the areas of communication with constituents, database maintenance, special events and fundraising events.

History:
At age 25, Lance Armstrong was one of the world's best cyclists, winning the World Championships, the Tour de Pont, and multiple Tour de France stages. On October 2, he is diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer which spread to his abdomen, lungs and brain. Lance declares himself a survivor - not a victim - and takes an active role in educating himself about his disease. Armed with knowledge, support and confidence in medicine he undergoes aggressive treatment and beats the disease.

In 1997 he founded the Lance Armstrong Foundation and held its inaugural fundraising cycling race. Since then the the LAF Community Program has awarded more than $3.7 million to non-profit organizations across the country, more than $14.4 million in research grants and in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control, has created the National Action Plan for Cancer Survivorship which helps health organizations, physicians and caregivers understand and address survivorship needs.
