Talk Time - Fall 2009 & Spring 2010

Volunteers are needed for the Fall 2009 & Spring 2010 Talk Time sessions to serve as facilitators.

Volunteers serve weekly from September - December 2009 and again January - May 2010.

Talk Time is an English conversation practice program for non-native English speaking adults. It provides a safe and relaxed environment in the library for these individuals to practice English-speaking skills, with the help of volunteer facilitators.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

Work with co-facilitator to promote conversation among non-native English speakers at the library.

Attend Talk Time sessions once a week during the fall (September through December 2009) and Spring (January through May 2010)

Sessions are a little over 1 1/2 hours in length for volunteers. Locations and times for Fall 2009 are listed below. Locations and times for Fall and Spring 09-10 are listed below

Fall 2009 Schedule
St. John library (Saturday) 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Terrazas library (Wednesday) 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Ruiz library (Tuesday) 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Southeast library (Tuesday) 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Yarborough library (Saturday) 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
John Henry Faulk (TBA)

Springs 2010 (TBA)
Volunteer Requirements:

Complete an Austin Public Library Adult Volunteer Application. Please review the days and times above, and indicate your location choice on the Schedule Information portion of the application. The application is available on the Library's Volunteer Program page, in PDF (for regular mail) and Microsoft Word (for e-mail) formats.
Completed applications should be e-mailed to sharon.edwards@ci.austin.tx.us or mailed to:

Accepted volunteers will be required to undergo a criminal background check and attend a Volunteer Training.
