Patient Care and Bereavement Volunteers Needed

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on January 20, 2009

Volunteers are integral to our services. We have openings for Patient Care volunteers that work directly with the patient and family in the home or long-term care facility. The main goal is to provide emotional and practical support to the patients and families during a difficult phase of their lives. Activities may include: companionship visits, reading to the patient, life review, writing letters, running errands, giving the caregiver a much needed break, etc. Orientation/training for patient related opportunities is 12 hours.

Bereavement Volunteers provide practical and emotional support to survivors after the death of a hospice patient. Bereavement volunteers provide supportive phone calls and/or personal visits to the loved ones of our patients to help them move through the grief process. Activities may include: companionship, emotional support, sharing educational information about the grief process, providing referrals to bereavement support groups, validating experiences, etc. Volunteer training is 12 hours and can be completed in a group, individually, or a combination of the two. We are very flexible and want to accommodate your schedule. On-going continuing education will also be provided.

Training for both bereavement and patient care volunteers is 12 hours.
