Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on February 2, 2009

Heart House Austin is a free afterschool program dedicated to providing a safe haven, academic support and adult mentoring to low-income children. It's afterschool, it's fun and it's structured.

Before your first day, you will be given tools to help you in the classroom through a 2 hour training and orientation. You will learn classroom management, educational theory and the nitty-gritty of being a tutor in an afterschool program.

< Our program is 3pm- 6 pm (you can come anytime, but we'd like you to stay the entire time :))
< We have snack, 1 hr of homework, then 1 hr of activity, then clean-up
< We encourage volunteers to bring their personalities and engage the children.
< We have fun!

  1. You may submit an application on line at www.hearthouse.org/volunteering
  2. We encourage you to view our website (it's informative)
  3. You can schedule a Sneak-Peek to observe the program (Is this right for me?)
  4. You can then RSVP for a volunteer orientation/training
  5. Come hangout with us as a volunteer!
