Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on November 17, 2009

Compañeros en Lectura brings volunteers into Spanish-bilingual classrooms once a week for 45 minutes to help 2nd graders become stronger and more successful readers. Our program follows a volunteer model where:

  • the entire class participates at the same time
  • the teacher is in the classroom during the session for support
  • 3 to 4 children reading on the same level are paired with the same volunteer every week
  • structured materials are used by the children and volunteers
  • all communication and materials are in Spanish

Structured materials guide volunteers and students through 3 types of activities:

  • fluency practice
  • word study
  • comprehension

Join us for this fun and incredible program!
** You may still register for the 2009-2010 school year! **

Volunteers need to be fluent in Spanish and have the ability to commit to serving for 45 minutes once a week concluding in early May 2010.

Interested volunteers should register at www.austinpartners.org. Once a Safe Schools background check is approved, the volunteer will be contacted about training and volunteer schedules.
