Partners in Math

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on November 5, 2009

Partners in Math volunteers engage small groups of students in solving math problems in class during the school day. Volunteers bring their enjoyment of math, relevance, and real-world experience to students in underserved communities.

Volunteers “coach” a small group of students in a math classroom for 45 minutes each week. Every week, the teacher presents a lesson to their students and volunteers. Each volunteer then coaches a small group of 3-4 students, who work together to solve the problems of the day. Every student is in a group with a volunteer. The teacher remains in the classroom to support the program.

Interested volunteers can register at http://www.austinpartners.org/volunteers/volunteer_center.shtml. Choose Partners in Math, Register Now. Upon registration, volunteers will be contacted about training and placement.

Opportunities are available in many Austin ISD elementary, middle, and high school classrooms. The program runs throughout the school year. Volunteers are asked to commit through mid-May.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Bedicheck M.S. [(S)William Cannon & S. 1st] - Thursdays
Eastside Memorial [(E)183 & 7 St.] - Tuesdays

Interested volunteers should register at www.austinpartners.org for the opportunity they prefer. Once a Safe Schools background check has been approved, volunteers will be contacted about training.
