DADS Silver Lining Program

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on April 1, 2009

Silver Lining, a volunteer outreach program of the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS), provides volunteer visits to people living in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and state schools/centers statewide.

Silver Lining's goal is to support the need for care and connection in a growing aging population by:

  • Promoting volunteerism that will affect quality of life and quality of care.
  • Increasing wellness by improving social connections and mental health.
  • Building awareness and involvement in programs and services that support DADS vision for wellness, dignity and choice for all Texans

To get involved, visit www.silverliningatdads.org to locate a facility in your area (or call us at 1-800-889-8595 for assistance). Choose a facility and contact the Activities Director to obtain volunteer requirements and discuss plans for your first volunteer visit.

Contact Silver Lining at 1-800-889-8595 to register as a volunteer with the program. Silver Lining will stay connected with you through emails, e-newsletters, and provide additional resources & volunteer incentives to keep you motivated.

Volunteers are managed by facility staff at the volunteer locations.

Volunteers are not managed by DADS. Volunteer guidelines will vary depending on volunteer locations. State schools/centers have their own rules and procedures for volunteers through the Community Relations Director on campus. Participating nursing homes or assisted living facilities have their own volunteer guidelines through the Activities Director or Volunteer Coordinator. Visit the Silver Lining website to get started at www.silverliningatdads.org.
