Internship Description:
The CAFB Recovery Specialist Intern will be integral in helping train, assist and manage volunteers in the Product Recovery (PR) area, where volunteers inspect, sort and prepare donated food for distribution. This person will also assist the Product Recovery Manager, the Assistant PR Manager and the Volunteer Services Coordinator with the day-to-day PR operations. Customer relations skills and project management skills acquired during this internship would be beneficial in any business area, primarily in people management.

Intern Qualifications:
Applicants must have a desire to inspire and enable people and the ability to work efficiently in a fast- paced environment. The candidate should work well independently, be a self-starter, and adhere to direction and deadlines. A sense of humor and humility is essential. The ideal candidate will be:

  • A full-time or part-time student currently enrolled in classes
  • Able to work:
o Mondays 12:30-5:30 p.m. and
o Thursdays 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. and
o Saturdays 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Outgoing, confident and personable
  • Able to interact with volunteers of all ages and skill sets
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong verbal communication with the ability to delegate
  • Professional
  • Familiarity with online scheduling tools
  • Able to lift 35 pounds and able to stand for long periods of time

Job Description:

  • Assist in instructing and directing volunteers (i.e.: how to inspect, sort and box donations)
  • Assist in welcoming and training volunteers
  • Represent CAFB, contributing to the mission, the volunteers and the work at hand
  • Observe and report workflow, productivity and timeliness of daily volunteer groups
  • Be a key leader in enforcing and promoting PR safety rules/jobsite safety
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Product Recovery manager
