Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on August 28, 2009 |
We provide therapeutic horseback riding lessons for disabled children & adults. We need people to walk beside the horse to assist the riders in following directions and with balance. Also if you have experience around horses we also need volunteers to lead. We play Simon Says, Statues, basketball and go on trail rides. One of our volunteers answered an ad in the Austin American Statesman for side walkers over 20 years ago and has been volunteering ever since. We all have been blessed by having the opportunity to witness many achievements that our riders have accomplished. Horse experience is not required. Wear comfortable clothes suitable for the weather. Good closed toed walking shoes are preferred as we do quite a bit of walking during lessons. This opportunity is sponsored by: Handicapped Equestrian Learning Program, Inc.
