Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on June 22, 2009

This opportunity allows volunteers to interact with pet owners and animals. Volunteers will experience the front-of-house administration of a veterinarian clinic. This is an exciting hands-on and interactive position that allows for new experiences each time a volunteer serves.
*Work with animals and owners to check in animal clients for surgeries in the morning.
*Work with animals and owners to check out clients, including billing/payment and relaying post-operative instructions to pet owners when picking up their animals after surgery in the afternoon. Retrieve animals from kennels and return to owners.
*In between surgery hours, retrieve phone messages, return calls, answer heavy-volume incoming phone calls, make new appointments for surgery and make calls to confirm current appointments, sterilize medical instruments, prepare surgical packs and assist with on-site laundry.
*Assist in answering pet healthcare questions with the help of trained clinic staff.

Volunteers must be 17 years of age. We are unable to accommodate individuals seeking to fulfill court-ordered community service hours. It is preferred that volunteers wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing. No uniform or special attire is required. Contact volunteer coordinator to schedule a 30 minute tour of the Animal Trustees of Austin clinic facility, then a 2 hour training session on specific duties to be carried out during volunteer shift will be scheduled. Hours: Flexible 7:30am-6:00pm, Monday-Saturday, three hour shifts during this time frame.
