ESL and Basic Literacy - Teach Adults to Read!

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 3, 2009

Volunteer Tutors teach 2-hour ESL or Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes. Classes meet on M/W or T/Th, and tutors may teach both weekly sessions or may "co-teach" and tutor one day each week. Sessions are offered in the morning (10am-12pm), afternoon (12:30-2:30), and evening (6:30-8:30) and take place either at our Center in East Austin or at locations throughout the community. Tutors are matched with individuals or with small groups of 2-7 students.

Prospective volunteers attend an Orientation on a Monday evening. The Orientation is followed by two 6-hour Saturday Tutor Training Workshops.
We welcome all volunteers aged 18 and up, and request that tutors make a minimum of a 6 month commitment.
