Purpose The role of the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) Reaching Out Center (ROC) Volunteer is to assist both CAFB staff and clients to ensure a productive, safe and efficient distribution for all people served. Job Title Reaching Out Center Volunteer Location Pflugerville, TX 15630 Vision Dr., Suite A Pflugerville, TX 78660 Key Responsibilities Thursday: Stocking the shelves, 1:30 - 3 p.m. • Arrive at the food pantry by 1:30 p.m. • Assist with unloading incoming food order, stocking shelves and light clean up in preparation for Friday pantry distribution Friday: Food pantry distribution, 2 – 5 p.m.. Duties vary but include: • Arrive at the food pantry by 1:45 p.m. • Assist with organization of clients/line and parking direction at the distribution • Greet clients and ensure proper intake paperwork is on file • Assist clients with food selection from pantry, following safe food handling guidelines • Carry food to client vehicles • Restock shelves as needed • Help with the break-down and clean-up after distribution is complete The successful CAFB Reaching Out Center volunteer is… • Able to lift 30 pounds or more • Able to accept direction from pantry coordinator • Able to work with pantry clients of various backgrounds, ages and disabilities • Able to remain positive, caring and compassionate at all times • Willing to cooperate with the CAFB staff and other volunteers at the distribution Reports to: Food Pantry Coordinator Agency Relations Director, Karla Cantu kcantu@austinfoodbank.org, (512)684-2506 Time Commitment The CAFB EASC volunteer position requires of minimum commitment of three hours for each distribution and must arrive by times listed above.
Qualifications Eligible candidates for the CAFB EASC Volunteer position includes adults over 18 and minors 12 and up who are accompanied by an adult. Support Provided Training for the volunteer position takes place the first 30 minutes of each shift. In addition, the CAFB EASC Pantry Coordinator or Programs Director will be available on an ongoing basis to answer questions and provide other assistance as needed.
