Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on August 18, 2009

Project Mentor in Manor Independent School District has an immediate need for school-based mentors to support students in grades four through eight. One hour of your time each week could be a tremendous gift for any student. For some, it may be a life-altering experience.

Project Mentor is a school‐based mentoring program, funded through the US Department of Education. The goal of the Department of Education funded program is to: 1) assist students in receiving support and guidance from a mentor, 2) improve the academic performance, 3) improve the interpersonal relationships of students with their peers, teachers, other adults, and family members, 4) reduce the school dropout rate, 5) reduce juvenile delinquency and gang participation.

Following an interview, screening, and brief training, mentors will keep a regular weekly schedule with the student whom they are partnered. Structure and routine is vital to the program, so reliability is a must.
