What is a Hospice Volunteer?

Hospice volunteers are indispensable, key members of the hospice care team. They share talents, and interests in a manner that provides comfort and enriches the quality of life for those served. They find it personally gratifying, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally meaningful to assist those in need at a critical point in their lives.

  • Compassionate, sensitive to patients, families and caregivers, facing end of life issues.
  • Friendly, open and flexible, a good listener
  • Non judgmental
  • Offer a combination of unique kindness and compassion

Types of Volunteer Opportunities

Many of our Volunteer Opportunities Include:

Support for patients

  • Visiting
  • Reading
  • Writing Letters or Cards
  • Friendly Phone Calls
  • Providing Yard Work
  • Planning a Birthday Celebration or other Special Occasion Celebration
  • Making Special Handcrafted Items:
o Holiday Cards
o Gift Baskets
o Lap Blankets and Shawls
  • Providing Baked Goods

Support for family members

  • Assist with Shopping or Household Maintenance
  • Short Respite Relief:
o Sitting with Patient for 1 - 4 Hours to Allow Caregiver Relief
  • Visits or Phone Calls to Caregivers or Family members from a compassionate friend.

Administrative Work

  • A volunteer with clerical skills can serve hospice by helping in the office with simple administrative duties, such as:
o Preparing Mailings
o Typing, photocopying, etc.

A desire & willingness to contribute to the happiness of our patients & their families. Free Training, CPR Certification & Hepatitis B Vaccination provided

Useful Languages: English, Spanish
