Classroom Coaching - Partners in Reading

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on November 5, 2009

Partners in Reading brings volunteers into the classroom once a week for 45 minutes to help 2nd graders become stronger and more successful readers. Our program follows a volunteer model where:

  • the entire class participates at the same time
  • the teacher is in the classroom during the session for support
  • 3-4 children reading on the same level are paired with the same volunteer every week
  • structured materials are used by the children and volunteers
  • volunteers act as cheerleaders for their students' success!

Every week, volunteers and students do the following 3 activities:
  • vocabulary
  • comprehension
  • fluency.

Volunteer opportunities are available at times and locations throughout Austin ISD at various Title 1 schools. We know we can find a time and location that will work with your schedule!
Requirements:
Volunteers must have the ability to commit to serving for 45 minutes each week from October 2009 through early May 2010 (about 24 45-minute sessions).
