Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Girls on the Run of Austin is planning on hosting our very own 5K to be held in May 2010. As with all of our 5K races, we will need a great deal of help coordinating all of the logistics. Some of the areas in which we will need assistance are listed below:

•Secure discounted or free race registrations for all participants and Running Buddies
•Determining incentives to give the girls at each mile
•Acquire event permits
•Recruit volunteer event staff
•Assist with event set-up
•Lead event set-up, management and tear down
•Maintain and control equipment and supplies
•Secure race t-shirts and finisher items
•Identify and negotiate discounts
•Identify and secure race sponsorships
•Prepare and follow an event budget
•Other race-related duties
•Attend council meetings as appropriate

•Administrative, phone and communication skills
•Strong supervisory and leadership skills
•Decision-making and problem-solving abilities
•Must be organized and have careful attention to detail
•Should understand the sport of running.
•Previous race coordination experience
•A strong commitment to girls' positive development
•Experience working with non-profits
•Flexible / ability to accommodate to a changing environment
•Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
•You must be available to work some weekends and evenings as needed to prepare for this event
