The Adopt-A-Beach Program conducts two coastwide cleanups per year, one in the fall and one in the spring. There are also two winter events specialized for the Coastal Bend and the Rio Grande Valley areas. The program incorporates a Beach Guardian program that works with individuals and groups comprised of businesses and civic and youth organizations to adopt and maintain a stretch of beach for a one-year commitment. The majority of the adopting groups renew their commitments for the following year. In addition, the program assists with special cleanup events throughout each year and provides education and outreach at schools and community events in Texas. The Adopt-A-Beach Program continues to get its message out to schoolchildren by holding an annual art contest, Treasures of the Texas Coast, to help spread its message that “Trashing Texas Beaches Isn’t Cool”. Just this year, the contest drew more than 6,000 schoolchildren from all parts of Texas to try and become one of the 48 regional finalists, and also to be named the grand prize winner from those 48 winning entries.

Sponsored by Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach Program.
