Volunteer Opportunity Details:

The Department of Transportation and the group will enter into an agreement to allow the group to contribute to the effort of maintaining and creating litter-free highways. UDOT will provide litter bags, collect the bags you fill, and will provide safety instructions. Please contact Tami Timothy.

By their signature on the contract, the group acknowledges the hazardous nature of the work and agrees to assume full responsibility in the event of an accident or other incident involving death or injury to members of the group or others or property damage that results from negligence or intentional conduct on the part of any member of the group.

The Department agrees to accomplish the following.

1. Erect a sign on the adopted roadway section with the group's name or acronym displayed to provide recognition for the group's effort.
2. Assist the group in the group's responsibility to provide safety instruction to their members by offering a safety meeting for group representatives to attend.
3. Provide special materials as required, including orange safety vest and trash bags.
4. Allow the group to do work on the section of roadway under the department's jurisdiction.
5. Remove litter under special circumstances, (i.e. very large, heavy, or hazardous items).

The group further agrees to the following provisions:



1. All members of the Group on the roadside will be at least 11 years of age. Children 11 - 15 years of age will be under direct adult supervision.
2. The group will be acting as authorized volunteer workers for the department and will be responsible
for the safety of every group member on the roadside or roadway.
Consequently the group MUST:

• Provide safety instructions to every participating member before arrival at the work site.
• Follow all safety instructions given by the Region Safety Coordinator or her designee.
(Some of those instructions are provided.)

1. The group shall clean the litter from the indicated section of roadway at least three times per year
for the duration of the contract period, which shall be a minimum of two years. The group acknowledges
that clean-up dates may be assigned by the department with reasonable notice.

1. The group shall coordinate all efforts with the Maintenance Station Foreman in charge of the indicated
section of highway, contacting him at least one week in advance to arrange dates and times for cleanup.

1. The group shall obtain the necessary supplies and materials from the Department, through the Maintenance Station Foreman during regular business hours.
2. The group shall place filled trash bags at the edge of the roadway as they become full for pickup and disposal by the department. Bags are to be tied, and torn bags are to be placed inside another bag and secured.
3. The group shall return any unused materials and supplies furnished by the department to the Maintenance Station Foreman within one week of each clean-up date.
