Logo

Habitat for Humanity -- DeKalb works in partnership with potential qualified homeowners to build and renovate decent, safe, affordable housing, involving people from the faith community, businesses and local communities in building homes, supporting families through the process of acquiring, owning and maintaining a home and helping them to become productive homeowners who give back and participate in the community.

Description:
Habitat for Humanity -- DeKalb is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit builder of affordable housing. We are a county-wide, volunteer based organization that works in partnership with people in need of decent, safe, affordable housing. We have built forty houses under the sponsorship of some 37 churches and 15 businesses, as well as schools, civic organizations and foundations. These homes are sold at cost to the families with a no interest mortgage. Typically, mortgage payments, taxes and insurance total less that the homeowner paid previously for rent.

History:
Habitat for Humanity -- DeKalb was founded over twenty years ago with the support of the DeKalb County administration to create local enthusiasm and participation for building homes for the working class poor. We have built fifty houses under the sponsorship of some 37 churches and 15 businesses, as well as schools, civic organizations and foundations. To more adequately serve the DeKalb County community, DeKalb Habitat’s Board of Directors has developed a plan to significantly grow the affiliate from 2-3 homes per year to 12-15 homes per year by 2012.
