The Fairview Elementary School staff, in partnership with families and the community, provides a supportive, safe, positive, productive, child-focused environment, which challenges all children to become successful lifelong learners.

Description:
Fairview Elementary is located near the downtown area of Bloomington. It serves pupils in kindergarten through sixth grade. Fairview has a particular commitment to healthy eating and promoting healthy habits in the pupils. The school location provides students with unique opportunities for walking trips: Indiana University, WonderLab Science Museum, Mathers Museum, Monroe County Public Library, all city and county offices, and city parks. Fairview attendance area includes a government housing project, trailer courts, apartments, and a protective shelter for abused/homeless families. The majority of students live in government subsidized housing. Approximately 75 to 90 (approx. 30% of the Fairview student body) students go to the extended day program through Banneker Community Center "Banneker at the View, Boys and Girls Club, or Girls, Inc. instead of going home after school.

History:
Fairview Elementary School, located at 627 W. 8th Street, is the only school in the Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) near the downtown area of Bloomington. The historical residential area around Fairview has been the scene of recent restoration work. Fairview is a contributing building in the West Side Historic District. The building was registered on February 14, 1997. Fairview’s attendance district is well established, leaving no undeveloped areas for future growth.

Fairview is a multi-storied structure, constructed in three phases. The original Romanesque Revival school building was completed in 1893. In 1928, the brick annex was built. The newest section of the school opened in 1954. Fairview underwent extensive renovation during the 1989-90 school year.
