Agency Details:
Aaron's Acres
Aaron's Acres mission is to provide children(ages 5-21) with developmental disabilities year-round activities typically associated with childhood, through therapeutically based, age-appropriate, social and recreational programs. In addition, it is to provide and facilitate emotional, educational and recreational support for the entire family.
Description:
We have programs in 3 counties: Lancaster, Berks and Dauphin. During the school year, we have a monthly recreational program which meets either on Friday nights or on Sunday afternoons. During the summer, we have camp experiences in all 3 counties. They are half day programs all supervised by professional staff. We have 1-1 or 1-2 staff to child ratio which allows for increased communication, socialization and immediate intervention throughout the camp day. Children have the opportunity to ride horses, swim daily, participate in music therapy, and engage in a variety of activities with their peers while in a safe, supervised, structured setting.
History:
Aaron's Acres was founded 12 years ago by a group of parents who were interested in having a summer camp for their children who had special needs. We started with 11 children attending a camp for 1 week in Lancaster. Last summer, we had over 140 children attend a camp at one of our 3 sites (over a 13 week period). We are a non profit 501c3 organization.
