Jamaica NAACP Day Care Center, Inc

Agency Details:

Jamaica NAACP Day Care Center, Inc

The philosophy of the Jamaica N.A.A.C.P. Day Care Center has two components. The first component is that children learn by doing. The second component is that all children, regardless of race, creed, color or ethnic background, deserve respect and an opportunity to achieve their full potential. Our Universal Pre-kindergarten students learn by actively exploring their environment.

Preschool and Kindergarten students have various opportunities to support the continuum of their physical and social growth and development. Their diversity is respected and valued. Both the Jamaica N.A.A.C.P. Day Care Center, Inc. and the parents believe that a planned, organized, consistently implemented curriculum supports child development and education for children of all ages. In addition, our curriculum aligns our Pre-kindergarten programs with the New York City Department of Education Standards for Universal Pre-kindergarten.

Description:
The Center was formally opened on September 19, 1970. Roy Wilkins, Executive Director of the N.A.A.C.P. was the honored guest for the dedication. In his remarks, he cited the dire need to prepare Black children “to gain the most from their future educational experiences” as the reason for the National N.A.A.C.P.'s consent for the undertaking. He then christened the building with a bottle of milk. The Jamaica N.A.A.C.P. Day Care Center, Inc. has had a successful contractual relationship with Agency for Children Services for more than 39 years.
