Each One Reach One's mission is to divert incarcerated youth and youth on probation from a life in prison. To implement our mission, EORO conducts mentor-based playwriting and educational tutoring programs at juvenile detention facilities in San Mateo and San Francisco counties.

Description:
Over the past ten years, EORO has conducted approximately 66 two-week long intensive playwriting workshops in juvenile detention facilities and alternative schools throughout San Mateo and San Francisco counties. With the assistance of theater artists/mentors, approximately 590 high-risk youth have written short, original one-act plays.

Over 800 volunteer actors and directors have assisted in the project, and more than 2,500 parents, probation officers, teachers, mental health workers, and community members have attended staged readings.

In 1999, EORO received the National Council on Crime and Delinquency's New American Community Award for our efforts to reduce crime. EORO has a 10-member Board of Directors and has secured non-profit status.

THE ADAPT PROGRAM

In 2002, EORO expanded their program with A Dream and a Plan for Tomorrow (ADAPT). The program provides weekly one-on-one after-school study halls for academic tutoring and life planning workshops to young people incarcerated at Youth Services Center in San Mateo, and the Juvenile Justice Center in San Francisco, CA. Over 309 detained youth have participated in these progrms with over 69 youth completing their GED prior to release and 91 completely 1-4 of the necessary test to recive their GED.

History:
Each One Reach One was founded in 1997 to divert incarcerated youth and youth on probation from the adult criminal justice system. The cornerstone of EORO's vision is the belief in the transformative power of the arts and education. We implement this mission by engaging theater artists, college students and community members to work one on one with teens through a variety of programs.
